TAXES AND SPENDING:
Putnam Valley is one of the most beautiful Towns in the Hudson Valley. It used to be one of the most affordable. What happened?
The answer is simple: for too long there has not been ONE Board member who has advocated for the hard working residents of our Town. On November 7th one of the most important Elections in our Town's history will be held- an Election that will help determine whether or not Putnam Valley will remain even somewhat affordable for our young people, retirees and seniors.
Nothing is being done to try and cut costs, consolidate services, or bring in new sources of revenue to relieve our burden.
Instead, they rubber stamp every budget increase, every expenditure, every project with no thought about how we will pay for it.
No one mentions the fact that we have no commercial tax base and that our property taxes are, for the most part, paid by several thousand residential homeowners.
Folks, the hard truth is that this kind of spending is simply NOT SUSTAINABLE. The Town cannot print money. It can only keep taxing us. Where will it end?
Here are a few things that are on their grandiose agenda. Keep in mind that we are talking about millions of dollars.
* New Firehouse- estimated at $12- 15 million including the $2 million cleanup. New town hall to be constructed at the current firehouse.
* Reconstruction of current town hall to make into another municipal building.* Upgrades to CYO Camp we just purchased* New Sheriff's station to be created at the current Parks & Rec building
As it stands now, I am the ONLY candidate who is concerned about where our taxes are headed. Those of you who know me, know that I have been a taxpayer advocate for our Town for over 30 years. I fought to abolish the former Police Department which has saved us millions of dollars. I worked hard to get the rec center and other issues on the ballot so we could vote on them. I have never been afraid to stand up for what I believe in.
Being a volunteer only gets you so far. I need to be on the Board so that WE can have a vote and can't be shut down when there is controversy and excess. If I am elected, I will hit the ground running because I already know the issues. My opponents won't even admit there are problems- how can they solve them?
Folks, you don't have to be a fortune teller to know what the future of our Town is if we stay on the current path of unchecked spending and taxation. I don't want to be forced from my home and the Town where I grew up and neither do you. But unless something is done NOW, there are a lot of people who will be packing their bags and heading out.
What's really frustrating is that we do have options when it comes to dealing with the needs of our Town. There are millions of dollars available from the State and Federal Government for infrastructure, water, sewers, recreation, you name it. Example: Peekskill just got $10 million dollars for their Downtown business district. Why is it that we can't even get one million to help with Lake Peekskill's water and septic problems? What is wrong with this picture?
The problem is that our Town Board members have no imagination or sense of urgency when it comes to spending money. It is so much easier to just hand the bill to the Taxpayers and forget about it!
If you want to change the way things are being done in this Town, if you want someone who's not afraid to stand up to the special interests, the VOTE FOR ME on November 7th.
** IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GET ME ELECTED, PLEASE CAST JUST ONE VOTE FOR PATTY VILLANOVA. ("BULLET VOTING") I only have one line on the ballot and need every single vote.

When my parents came here in 1955, they were able to buy a house for less than $7000. Back then there was no town water, no sewers, no public transportation or other services and no commercial tax base.
Fast forward to today and there's still no town water or sewers, no public transportation, etc. and $7000 won't even pay the taxes for one year on that same house. Ask yourself, what's wrong with this picture?
Putnam Valley is quickly becoming unaffordable for many of us, especially seniors, retirees and even young people who would like to live in the town where they grew up.
Since we have no real commercial or business tax base, the entire burden rests on the shoulders of residential property owners. The current situation is simply unsustainable! We cannot keep going on like this without consequences.
At some point we have to get real and start cutting spending wherever possible. A "tax cap" should not mean an automatic budget increase every year.
I am the only candidate running for Town Board who acknowledges that we have financial issues. My opponents won't even admit there are problems, let alone come up with solutions. If I am elected, my full focus will be on my fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers. I know how to get things done and how to run a business. Let me be your voice on the town board.
In addition to cutting spending, I believe that there are other, creative ways we can deal with our financial problems. For example, the City of Peekskill just received $10 Million Dollars for improvements to their Downtown. Why can't Putnam Valley get grants and funding for vitally needed infrastructure in Lake Peekskill? The water and septic systems in that Community desperately need to be upgraded and it's about time that sewer lines were installed around the lake. There are literally millions of dollars available from the State and Federal Government for these improvements, yet no one on the Board seems to be able to figure out how to do what it takes to get the money. Keep in mind that we pay some of the highest taxes in NY State. We are certainly entitled to receive some benefit for our money.
Although I will be on the REPUBLICAN line I was not endorsed by that party. I can use all the help I can get!
Putting out flyers, word-of-mouth, and donating are all ways of helping me to get elected. Please call me or drop me a line at patty10579@gmail- anytime. I need your input. Let me know what issues are important to you. Thanks!

We have some of the most beautiful lakes in New York State. Let's make sure they stay that way.
Putnam Valley's ever changing landscapes are part of what makes our town so special.
“The Taxpayer First and Foremost ~
Make Putnam Valley Affordable Again"
I am pleased to announce that I have received the endorsement of the LPNY for town board and my name will be on the ballot this November. I’ve been a taxpayer advocate for over 30 years and want to do something about the uncontrolled spending and taxation that has made Putnam Valley unaffordable for many seniors, retirees and young people who are thinking about moving back to the town where they grew up.
Putnam Valley does not have a business or commercial tax base. All of our Town, School and County taxes come from residential property owners. How is this even remotely sustainable? The answer is that it is not. Unless something is done, we will see even more of our residents, some of whom have been here for generations, forced to leave.
There is no one on the Town Board who is speaking up for the Taxpayers, and that includes my two opponents who have voted for most of the budget increases and back door spending. Nothing is being done to try and cut costs or to bring in new sources of income to take the pressure off of the homeowner.
If I get elected, the important issues I will be working on:
◆ Spending cuts and shared services- I would ask every department to try and reduce their costs. Everything should be on the table, including expensive professional contracts such as we have with the town attorney. Also, since Putnam County does not share sales tax with the towns, we are entitled to receive services in lieu of those payments. How about some help with economic development and tourism?
◆ Referendum for a new Firehouse, town hall and other projects- 10 years ago the Fire Department estimated the cost of a new fire station to be over $9 million dollars. On top of that, there were plans to turn the old firehouse into a new town hall. The Town Board has taken the position that there will be no vote allowed. Instead, they give the FD millions in backdoor budget payments over which we have no oversight or control. The taxpayers should know beforehand how much these projects will cost and be allowed to decide if we want them.
◆ Grants and financing from the State and Feds- the City of Peekskill just got a $10 million dollar grant for improvements to their Downtown. Yet our town officials can’t figure out how to get even $1 million for the long suffering residents of Lake Peekskill for water and septic problems.
◆ Airbnb, home based businesses and Property Rights- As taxpaying property owners, we have the right to use our homes as we see fit, as long as we are not violating the law or intruding on the rights of others. Short term rentals like Airbnb help residents make money to pay the taxes. There are plenty of laws already on the books that deal with zoning and planning. Putnam Valley does not need more regulations that will choke our economy. The town board should be encouraging small businesses like contractors, accountants, internet sellers and remote workers, not threatening to fine them or shut them down.
TERM LIMITS- As it stands now, it is possible that all of the current town board members, including the Supervisor and my opponents, could be on the Board for the next 20 years if they were to keep getting re-elected. Term limits are important for a number of reasons including the danger of having people in office for decades. We have term limits in our county, state and Federal governments. It's about time that Putnam Valley joined the club. If I am elected, I promise that I will serve no more than two terms. And I would urge the Board to vote to implement these limits in the future.
